CAREER OBJECTIVE

 

I aspire to hold a position where I have the opportunity to utilize my significant communication skills and further expand my knowledge of legislative issues at the federal, state and local levels of government.

 

PROFESSIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE

 

Jackson Health System, Executive Office, Government Relations – Miami, Florida

Director of Government Relations, January 2007 – Present

 

My core responsibilities centered around my ability to promote Jackson Health System and the Public Health Trust’s mission of providing outstanding health care services to the community through advocacy and representation before the state and local governments.  I assisted the Vice President of Government Relations and President and CEO in the development of annual government relations plans.  Provided support to the Public Affairs Committee of the Public Health Trust on behalf of the President’s Office.  In unison with my Vice President we managed an ongoing dialogue with state and local policy makers concerning the goals and objectives of the Public Health Trust and Administration, and subsequently reported back on the legislator’s responses.  Facilitated meetings and direct communication between my board members and our administration and key legislators.  Monitored and reported back on developing state and local legislation, rules and regulations, and maintained internal staff up-to-date on these issues.  Assisted the Vice President during the transition to a new President and CEO by scheduling introductory meetings with key local and state elected officials.  Provided extensive support to the Vice President in monitoring budget issues and ensuring a minimal loss of revenues. 

 

Miami-Dade County, Office of the Chair – Miami, Florida

Legislative Assistant, September 2005 – December 2006

 

I was primarily responsible for providing legislative assistance in the areas of monitoring, researching, and effectively communicating on public policy and legislation that were of interest to the Chairman.  I worked closely with the County Attorney’s Office on all legislative matters ensuring that all language was in strict adherence with the law, county, and state charters.  I participated in meetings with the Chair, all other Commissioners, and Senior County Administrative and Legislative staff.  I was responsible for documenting and reporting on the issues discussed at these meetings. I monitored, prepared agendas and reported on all Board of County Commission meetings, as well as County Commission Committee meetings.  I represented the Chair at political, professional and charitable functions throughout the County.

My responsibilities included a wide variety of activities including: scheduling, budgeting, billing, marketing, fundraising, client relations, administration and lobbying.

 

I played a major role in the development of an internal public relations/advertising infrastructure and contributed to client strategies and plans, advertising, marketing, direct mail, budgetary and media decisions.  I worked extensively with County Commissioners, State Legislators and their Senior Staffs.

Individual Project Accomplishments:

 

  • Arranged and hosted numerous charitable and political fundraising events.
  • Managed the Hispanic media advertising portion of a successful campaign to raise voter awareness in the Hispanic community, specifically in Miami-Dade County.
  • Managed media buying and placement of advertisements for numerous political and charitable campaigns.
  • Managed numerous press conference and media relations for clients.
  • Assisted with the lobbying efforts at the federal, state and local levels of government.
